Indiana Fever Take Big Action To Protect Caitlin Clark
Grace Hollars/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

Without a doubt, Caitlin Clark is becoming the hottest name in women’s basketball after her white-hot run in the NCAA. As a result, the Indiana Fever promised to take further action in protecting the rookie during her first year playing for the team.

Clark rose in popularity during her four-year run with the Iowa Hawkeyes in college. Ever since her freshman campaign in women’s college basketball, the guard made heads turn by boasting a game that resembles that of Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry. As a result, Clark transformed her team into a contender using her incredible prowess on the offensive end of the court.

In her final year, Clark rose to prominence by breaking Pete Maravich’s old record to become the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. Along with the feat, she led the Hawkeyes all throughout March Madness and until the championship round. Unfortunately, they lost to an undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks team in the final college game of her career.

After the match, Clark was selected first by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She headlines a class with notable female college hoopers, such as the Los Angeles Sparks’ Cameron Brink and the Chicago Sky’s pair of rookies in LSU Tigers’ Angel Reese and South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso.

Indiana Fever General Manager Lin Dunn Promises Added Protection for Caitlin Clark

Unlike in the NBA, WNBA teams fly their players via commercial air due to financial reasons. Clark’s immense popularity has led Fever general manager Lin Dunn to commit more protection for their star player in an article Michael Voepel wrote for ESPN:

“The Fever organization has done a really good job getting out ahead of things,” Clark said. “There’s gonna be a lot of security traveling with us. There will be certain plans of how we’re going to navigate going through airports and things like that. It’s not just for us; it’s for everybody in the WNBA. Everybody is dealing with the same thing,” Voepel wrote.

Clark’s popularity is growing by the day, even before she has played her first official game. Also, the Fever star has also been garnering a lot of criticism from those in the league, specifically that of Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi.

Clark is set to make her debut later this month against the Dallas Wings. By then, Indiana must have figured out a way to protect their rookie as her first year in the league progresses.
