Believe it or not, more than 300 NFL free agents are still looking for a contract. Here’s the best available at each position.
QB | Ryan Tannehill
Tannehill made a Pro Bowl and has 34,881 yards and 216 touchdowns in his 11-year career. He also had 27 rushing touchdowns and 2,103 yards on the ground. At 35 years old, he’d be a valuable asset for teams looking to develop a young quarterback.
RB | J.K. Dobbins
Thanks to injury, Dobbins has missed 43 of a possible 67 regular season games with the Ravens. If he ever gets healthy, his 5.8 yards per carry average could be hard for a running back-needy team to resist.
WR | Tyler Boyd
Boyd is a big, sure-handed receiver with skills as a blocker but averaged a career-low 10 yards per catch with two touchdowns in 2023. Losing quarterback Joe Burrow for seven games didn’t help, but he still had at least 50 catches and over 600 yards for the sixth straight year.
TE | Logan Thomas
Thomas had 72 catches for 670 yards and six touchdowns upon joining the Commanders in 2020 but struggled to reach 1,015 yards and eight scores over the next three years. Last season was the best of the bunch and if healthy, Thomas could do well with better weapons around him.
OL | Mekhi Becton
The 6-foot-7, 363-pound offensive tackle got off to a slow start being drafted 11th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. After missing all but one game in 2021 and the entire 2022 season with injury, Becton played well for the Jets in 2023 and should only improve with more repetitions.
DL | Jadeveon Clowney
The 31-year-old has been something of a mercenary pass rusher since leaving the Texans in 2019. Since then he’s had 23.5 sacks for four teams. He tied his career-high with 9.5 sacks for Baltimore last season and his 43 tackles were his most since 2018.
LB | Zach Cunningham
The seven-year veteran once had a league-high 164 tackles (106 solo) in 2020 and still had 85 tackles and four passes defended for a dreadful Eagles defense last season.
CB | Xavien Howard
The four-time Pro Bowler may have his heart set on the Texans, but many teams could use a player with Howard’s experience. The veteran allowed a career-best 10.7 yards per completion in 2023 while allowing a single touchdown.
S | Justin Simmons
Simmons will be 31 years old next season but is coming off his second Pro Bowl season after leading the league with six interceptions in 2022. His numbers should only improve once he’s away from the NFL’s 29th-ranked defense.
